Courtney Green and Chloe Meadows are two big names amongst the 10 who have been axed by The Only Way Is Essex, it has been reported.

Best friends Courtney, 26, and Chloe, 28, first joined the ITVBe show in 2015 but have reportedly been sent their marching orders in a bid to save the programme from a ratings slump.

Harry Lee, Kelsey Stratford and Clelia Theodorou are also said to be exiting so producers can concentrate on "a smaller group of cast members."

Amber Turner, James Lock and Amy Childs, who returned last year, will all be remaining on the show.

Chloe Sims and her sisters Frankie and Demi are also all believed to be returning as cast members.

Pete Wicks, Bobby Norris and Chloe Brockett will reportedly learn their fate today as bosses continue Zoom calls.

A source told MailOnline: "Courtney and Chloe are gutted, they thought they were part of the furniture. But bosses feel the ruthless cull was needed to shake up the show.

"Many of the stars are yet to be told ahead of meetings scheduled with producers today and are preparing themselves for the worst. It will be devastating for so many of them."

TOWIE confirmed the cull on Wednesday night as they announced plans to streamline the cast.

Bosses wrote on social media: "After more than 10 fabulous years following the lives of our ever-growing cast, TOWIE will be evolving with some changes.

"As it looks ahead to future series, focusing on a smaller group allows our cast more time to film their real lives.

"[And] showing more of their personal passions and professions, alongside their strong bonds and dynamics with family and friends."

The show insisted the loss of the regular cast members will be keenly felt behind the scenes, but they will always be "part of the TOWIE family."

"Those who won't appear regularly on screen next series will always be part of the TOWIE family and we wholeheartedly thank them for sharing their lives with us in recent years," the statement finished.
