Virgin River is no stranger to seeing some of its biggest and best-loved characters come and go during the emotional rollercoaster that is the first three seasons. Netflix viewers have been left in tears saying goodbye to Lilly (played by Linda Boyd) following her cancer battle, on the edge of their seats to see if Hope (Annette O’Toole) will survive a life-threatening car crash in season four, and scratching their heads wondering where Paige (Lexa Doig) is. Now, thanks to a behind the scenes clip shared on the show’s Instagram page, fans have one sought-after answer.

Following the news Netflix has renewed Virgin River for not one but two more seasons all the way up to season five, the cast has returned to film the new episodes.

And providing an update on how things are going, Alexandra Breckenridge – who plays leading star Mel Monroe – had a message for fans in a new clip from the set.

Along with the majority of the cast, Breckenridge says to camera in the new clip on the show’s Instagram: “Hey everybody out there in the internet land.

“We’re out here doing season four of Virgin River,” Breckenridge adds before waving and the camera scans across her castmates.

Fans get a fleeting look at series regulars Benjamin Hollingsworth, who plays Brady, Tim Matheson, who plays Doc, and Sarah Dugdale, who plays Lizzie as well as many others.

The actors all let out a cheer but there’s one familiar face fans were delighted to see – O’Toole’s.

Stood alongside Matheson – her on-screen other half – O’Toole can be seen waving, confirming Hope will be alive and well in the fourth season.

Inevitably, it didn’t take long for fans to react to the revelation, and it’s safe to say Virgin River fans are delighted.

The news of Hope’s return will undoubtedly be a relief given the character’s absence in season three.

Visiting family away from Virgin River for the majority of the third run, Hope returned home but soon ended up in hospital.

Doc could only wait anxiously as he discovered Hope had been involved in a car crash upon landing back in Virgin River.

Hope required surgery but when the doctor brought up the fact there could be problems with her head, Doc was inconsolable.

But judging by the behind the scenes clip, it looks like Doc and hope will be happily reunited.

And news that filming is in full swing also got excitement levels rising with @emily.ppg_ weighing in: “I’m looking forward to it!!!! [love heart emoji].”

@clairebee78 concurred: “[Love heart emoji] So b****y exciteddddd!!!!!xx.” (Sic)

While @resilient_jo similarly commented: “Can’t wait! I love this series.”
