Yellowstone fans will know a great deal of the animosity between Wade Morrow (played by Boots Southerland) and John Dutton (Kevin Costner) was based on a mysterious theft. This has been referenced a number of times on the show but it has only just been revealed what exactly was stolen.
What did Wade steal from John in Yellowstone?
Throughout the latter half of Yellowstone season three, tensions have been rising between Wade and the Duttons.
However, the actual truth about why the two families hate each other so much was only revealed in season three, episode nine.
Wade was introduced as a new enemy midway through season three when a mysterious theft was referenced.
Viewers will remember how John said to Wade: “You stole the one thing a cowboy doesn’t steal.”
He later added “You have something that belongs to me” to which Wade replied: “Come and get it.”
The source of the tension between the two has been a huge driver in their rivalry so far.
This was taken to the next level in episode eight when Wade and his son almost beat Teeter (Jen Landon) and Colby (Denim Richards) to death.
As a result, fans had come up with some theories about what exactly was stolen in the lead up to the finale.
Taking to Reddit, there was a lot of speculation about what it could be with one fan named NewGuyBIGuy even guessing he might have stolen his first-born son in a dramatic twist.
They wrote: “Wade had an affair with John Dutton’s wife. Wade raised the child.
“Then he went to jail when he killed his own wife later on. Father and son reunited after father got out of prison.
“John Dutton is going to reclaim his wife’s son as one of his new heirs.”

Other fans didn’t agree and thought the item in question is something else entirely.
Fan FishAreHookers guessed: “‘You stole the one thing that a cowboy doesn’t steal.’ It’s cows, you don’t steal cows if you’re a cowboy.”
However, in the end it turned out what Wade had stolen was the Yellowstone brand which he had on his chest.
Speaking about the moment this was revealed in a Paramount Network behind-the-scenes video, the cast gave some context.
Rip Wheeler star Cole Hauser said: “Wade is obviously an old friend or an old worker I should say of Yellowstone.”
Lloyd actor Forrie J Smith added: “Wade left us so he’s a traitor. He should have stayed gone.
“You don’t tread on someone and turn on him and then come back. And that’s what he does.
“He comes back and he goes to work for our enemies, and rubs it in John Dutton’s face.”
In response, John orders Wade’s hit and the crew hang him and cut the brand out of his chest.
Viewers are sure to see the repercussions of this as the series heads into its final episode.
Yellowstone airs on Sundays on Paramount Network.
