Barack and Michelle Obama landed in Barcelona yesterday, ahead of Bruce Springsteen’s concert in the Catalan capital on Friday night.

The former president was seen with the singer and movie director Steven Spielberg out for dinner at the Amar restaurant in the city center on Thursday with their wives.

El Pais reported that the Obamas are staying in the five-star Gran Hotel La Florida in the city, followed closely by a security detail.

The concert later today will be the first time that Springsteen will have visited Spain since May 2016, when he performed at Barcelona’s football ground, Camp Nou.

A caravan of cars with bright flashing lights were seen driving through the city at night, escorting the group to the Gran Florida hotel.

The motorcade included a mix of Mercedes, BMWs, a Range Rover and a local police car.

A security detail was later seen stationed outside the luxury hotel housing the Americans, with a row of black cars seen parked in front as police diverted traffic.

Chauffers and police officers were seen dotted around in cars which waited outside for some hours, per El Pais.

Springsteen was seen with wife Patti Scialfa dressed in light trousers and a white jacket.

His wife donned a cream dress with tassles and a black blazer.

Barack Obama was seen heading out in a green jacket and dark trousers with black dress shows on.

His wife, Michelle, was seen wearing a black jacket with decoration and holding a silver bag.

Steven Spielberg was seen wearing a trademark baseball cap, a coat over a waistcoat and a scarf.

The group ate at Amar in the center of the city, a highly-rated seafood restaurant known for its oysters and caviar.

Staff at the restaurant took a picture together with the famous Americans.

Former president Obama previously ran a podcast with Springsteen called Renegades: Born in the USA.

The show ran for eight episodes through the early months of 2021, recorded at Springsteen’s home in New Jersey.

They were said to have become friends during Obama’s 2008 bid for election.

The leafy district is home to elegant 19-century architecture, a lively creative scene and a range of locally owned bars.

Springsteen’s 2023 international tour started in the US, is moving through Europe and will return to North America later this year.

The tour is Springsteen’s first with the E Street Bank since February 2017.

Springsteen will play two concerts in the city on 28 and 30 April.
