A man was duped into handing over hundreds of dollars to a con man in Manhattan — when the scammer claimed he was a cop investigating ATM fraud, police said Tuesday.
The crook approached his mark around 2:45 p.m. as the man was withdrawing cash from an ATM inside Bellevue Hospital in Kips Bay on Sept. 11, cops said.
The swindler told the 38-year-old victim he was a police officer investigating fraud complaints associated with the ATM, and asked the man to hand over the cash he’d just withdrawn, police said.
When the guy passed over the bills, the suspect fled the hospital with $250.
The NYPD has released a photo of the suspected scammer, who was spotted wearing camouflage cargo pants, a white T-shirt and a white baseball cap.
