A 16-year-old girl who died after being pulled from the sea in North Yorkshire has been described as a ‘beautiful daughter’ in a poignant tribute by her family.

Freya Carley, from Easington, North Yorkshire, was pulled from the water at Saltburn Beach after emergency services scrambled to the scene at around 2pm on Sunday.

Two lifeboats and an air ambulance rushed to the beach, but Freya was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

Paying tribute, her family said: ‘We are truly devastated to announce the passing of our beautiful daughter Freya “Boo”.

‘It is not possible to describe the pain and loss that we as a family feel. We take so much comfort in knowing how loved Freya was by so many.

Her death came just days after a 12-year-old girl and 17-year-old boy tragically died while swimming off Bournemouth Beach after huge waves – thought to have been caused by a passing boat – made a number of bathers struggle in the water.

The boy, named by friends as Joe Abbess, had gone with friends to Bournemouth last Wednesday during half-term.

His family said they are ‘heartbroken and devastated’ at the loss of a ‘fabulous young man’ and ‘talented trainee chef’ who was enjoying a day at Bournemouth beach when he died.

The tragedy also claimed the life of 12-year-old Sunnah Khan, from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, whose family paid a heartfelt tribute to her as an ‘angel’.
