Probe after cops took an hour to get to murder scene despite a police station being two minutes away

WATCHDOGS are investigating after cops took almost an hour to get to a woman’s murder — even though there was a police station two minutes away.

West Midlands Police referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) over the death of Yordanos Brhane 19, who was found with stab wounds.

Police had been called at 6.13am and 6.26am on Saturday about a disturbance at her flat in Birmingham.

But officers did not arrive until 7am.

It is believed that the delay was caused by staff shortages.

A 25-year-old man known to Yordanos was arrested the next day and remains in custody.

The IOPC will now examine the case before deciding if a formal investigation is needed.
