Rapper Dizzee Rascal charged with assaulting woman following domestic bust-up

RAPPER Dizzee Rascal was today charged with assaulting a woman following a domestic bust-up.

The 36-year-old award-winning star is due to appear in court next month over the alleged incident at the woman’s flat in Streatham, South London.

Police were called to the address at teatime on 8 June and arrested grime singer Dizzee at the scene on suspicion of common assault.

The woman reported suffering a minor injury but did not require hospital treatment. Dizzzee’s arrest was reported by The Sun – but we were not able to name him at the time for legal reasons.

He reported back on bail today and was charged under his real name, Dylan Mills, and will appear at Croydon magistrates’ court on September 3.

The Metropolitan Police said: “Dylan Mills, 36, of Sevenoaks, Kent, has been charged with assault after an incident at a residential address in Streatham on 8 June.

“Officers attended and a woman reported minor injuries. She did not require hospital treatment. Mills is due to appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 3 September.”

Dizzee was awarded an MBE in The Queen’s Birthday Honours last year for services to music.

The singer and producer, who has had a string of number one hits, including ‘Bonkers,’ is one of Britain’s most successful acts.

East Londoner Dizzee first rose to fame when he was just 18 when he released his first solo album, Boy in da Corner, to critical acclaim.

Two more successful albums followed before his fourth, Tongue n’ Cheek was released in 20009 and spawned four number one hits.

The following year, Dizzee won Best British Solo Artist at the Brits and in 2012 he performed during the opening ceremony at the London Olympics.

Two further albums followed before Dizzee released his seventh, titled E3 AF, last October to widespread acclaim.

Dizzee, who has his own record label, called Dirtee Stank, won a new legion of fans for his wit when he appeared on the Great British Bake-Off in March this year.

He also won praise for delivering food parcels to under-privileged children in London’s East End during lockdown last year.

Dizzee has always been shy about his private life. He is said to have dated model Kaya Bousquet before she died in a car crash in 2008.
