Stuart Hogg's wife is 'devastated' after rugby ace left her for jockey

Stuart Hogg’s wife is ‘devastated’ after rugby ace left her for the ‘world’s sexiest jockey’ Leonna Mayor before she gave birth to their fourth child, friends reveal – as star shares Instagram post about being ‘excited’

The wife of former Scotland ruby captain Stuart Hogg has been left ‘devastated’ after he left her for the ‘world’s sexiest jockey’ while she was heavily pregnant with their fourth child, her friends have revealed.

A source close to Gillian Hogg, 36, said she is ‘absolutely heartbroken’ after the British and Irish Lions ace told her their marriage was over – and he started seeing former flat jockey Leonna Mayor, 32.

Hogg was pictured on Ms Mayor’s Instagram on Monday as the pair appeared to enjoy a luxurious spa trip at Moddershall Oaks Country Spa Retreat in Staffordshire.

The photo of the pair smiling with the caption ‘the least Mondayest Monday ever’ was posted shortly after Gillian announced that she had given birth to Phoebe Anne on November 7.

After news of the split broke, Hogg yesterday shared a cryptic Instagram post in which he reposted a quote which said: ‘Stop being afraid of what could go wrong and start being excited about what could go right.’

A source told MailOnline that Gillian has been ‘completely blindsided by this’, adding: ‘She is devastated and heartbroken at the end of her marriage. Despite all of this she still loved Stuart.

‘They had been together for seven years, so it is very hard for her to process what is happening. Emotionally, she is all over the place.’

The friend went on: ‘She’s broken into a million pieces. Having their fourth child was supposed to be a happy time for them as a family, but instead her life has been torn apart.’

Neighbours of the couple who lived in Hawick, Scotland, said that rumours circulated that Hogg and Gillian had separated some weeks ago after he was rarely seen at the family home.

Stuart Hogg’s career

Former Scotland captain Stuart Hogg retired from rugby union with immediate effect in July this year.

Hogg represented Scotland at two World Cups, became their all-time leading try-scorer in 2021 and played exactly 100 times for his country.

He also featured on three British and Irish Lions tours.

Hogg racked up almost 200 appearances for his two clubs, Glasgow Warriors and Exeter Chiefs.

During his club career he won the Premiership and European Champions Cup.

One said: ‘Gillian is a lovely woman and they seemed to be the perfect couple.

‘But we had a funny feeling something was up because he hadn’t been here for a while. And when we asked, Gillian said he was away working on stuff.

‘But even at that point, it was a bit odd because she was pregnant, so surely he would have wanted to have been here as much as possible for her.

‘He’s very silly and selfish doing this.’

Scotland’s all-time record try-scorer and former captain retired from the game earlier this year – and thanked his wife and ‘loving family’ for supporting him in his career.

It is unclear how Hogg and his new lover Ms Mayor met – or when the pair first linked up – but residents in Hawick Scotland have reported seeing the duo ‘canoodling’ in a local pub.

A source close to Gillian also told The Sun the mother-of-four is ‘heartbroken’ and seemingly disappointed that the ‘father of her children flaunting his new relationship on social media’.

‘She just can’t wrap her head around the timing of it all,’ the source added.

When announcing Phoebe’s birth on Sunday, Gillian failed to mention Hogg, writing ‘the final piece to my little family’.

Another source told The Sun that Hogg and Gillian’s marriage broke down when they moved back to their hometown.

Full-back Hogg racked up exactly 100 appearances for Scotland and played 11 Tests for the Lions. He captained both teams.

During his glittering career, he also played for Glasgow Warriors and Exeter Chiefs, massing almost 200 appearances across both.

In announcing his retirement in July, which meant he did not feature in a third Ruby World Cup, he said: ‘It is difficult where to start but with great sadness and an enormous amount of pride, I am announcing my immediate retirement from playing rugby.

‘I fought with everything I had to make the Rugby World Cup but this time my body has not been able to do the things I wanted and needed it to do. We knew this day would come eventually, I just never thought it would be this soon.

‘It’s hard to put into words just how much of an impact the game has had on my life. I will be retiring knowing that I have given my body and heart to rugby.

‘I will be forever grateful to this amazing community and cannot wait to begin my journey as a proud supporter of the team.’

His new lover Ms Mayor won 32 races between 2009 and 2013 but retired following an ankle injury.

She was dubbed the ‘world’s sexiest jockey’ when she posed in her underwear for a Zoo magazine shoot in 2013.

Speaking about her appearance on the front cover of the magazine in 2021, she told the Racing Post: ‘I know the reasons I did it and I think they were the right reasons. It didn’t do anyone any harm and I don’t regret it.

‘I didn’t get my boobs out and never would do that. I hope to have children in the future and there’s nothing they could find on the internet I would be ashamed of, nothing at all.

‘I think because I’m a girl with a certain image I have to work harder. I still believe people look at someone like me and think, ‘There’s a bimbo’.

‘I find it really offensive when people say I only get work on television because I’m pretty. It’s not like I’m just standing there in front of a camera doing nothing.

‘We all know people who have got jobs for the wrong reasons. I’ve got jobs because I’ve worked hard, proved myself and made things happen.’

Since her competitive racing career ended, Ms Mayor has turned to punditry, working for the likes of Sky Sports and ITV.

She has presented live coverage from many big races including the Grand National, Glorious Goodwood and Ascot.

Away from racing, she often shares photos to her 31,000 followers of luxury trips abroad to beautiful countries.

She recently went to the stunning Greek island of Lefkada, while she also jetted off to Dubai earlier this year.

Ms Mayor had a troubled upbringing on a council estate and spent some time living with her grandmother. She is the second oldest of five children – and was rejected when she tried to have a relationship with her estranged father when she was 12.

Leonna has described her upbringing as ‘strange’, adding: ‘I know a lot of people say that but mine was really strange. It was rubbish as well.’

It was not until the age of nine that Ms Mayor met her blood father.

‘I reached the point where I was asking, ‘Right, where’s my dad?” she told the Racing Post.

She discovered where he lived and made contact in person. She initially got to spend time with him and enjoyed it. The clock, however, was soon ticking. ‘He stopped answering my calls and messages,’ she said.

‘I didn’t want to keep feeling unwanted, so at the age of 12 or 13 I stopped trying,’ she added.

Ms Mayor is the half-sister of former beauty queen Jessica Whalley who died after falling from her horse at Michael Owen’s stables in March.

Following the tragedy, Ms Mayor said: ‘She was very young and I feel the pain of my grandmother and aunt who were very close to her.’

Leonna Mayor declined to comment. MailOnline has contacted Stuart Hogg’s representatives.
